ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Fletcher L. Nichols, Jr is a retired fine arts teacher of 38 years ( 32 with Roanoke City Public School, and 6 years with Buckingham County Schools). His love for, and dedication to teaching contributed to him being a recipient of the RCPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR award twice during his tenure. Teaching with a heart for all students has always been his priority. Fletcher is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. His artistic inclination includes both fine arts and music, and his teaching experience also included co-founder of and teacher (along with the late Mrs. Robin Neamo Parker) for the African American Culture Class at Patrick Henry High School. In addition Fletcher Nichols, along with Mr. Jerel Rhodes, created and implemented a support/mentoring program for at risk African American males know as Student Transitional Education Program (STEP). This program was in existence for 13 years.
His interest in photography has been a long standing one, and he was able to position himself comfortably in a place to further explore and hone those skills, particularly after retirement, with a new burst of time and energy on hand. All of Fletchers’ experiences represent strong sources of ministry for him over the years as he’s ministered the gospel. He was officially ordained in March of 2017. He and his wife Synethia are the proud parents of two sons, Joseph and Jared. Fletcher is excited to introduce a collection of photographs for this exhibit, with each piece telling a story, or describing an experience in the form of “Buds and Blossoms, People, Places and Things”. Fletcher welcomes you to accompany him on this journey.
